Stores Like Pottery Barn
Leading home furnishing company Pottery Barn, founded in 1949 and purchased by Williams-Sonoma, Inc. In 1986, is not without competition. There are stores like Pottery Barn selling the same line of product using an approach which has been its own trademark for the past decades: moderate pricing joined with aggressive sales promotion.
Founded in 1962, Pier 1 Imports now runs a chain of more than 1,200 stores thru the US, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico and employs around 16,700 people. It focuses on home furniture, decors and accessories. The company is based in Forth Worth, Texas. Pier 1 Imports used to operate a retail concept that competed against Pottery Barn Kids-called Pier 1 Kids-but made a decision to stop its operations in September 2007.
Cost Plus
Cost Plus derived its name from its initial retailing concept of “cost plus 10%.” Since opening its first store in San Francisco, California in 1958, Cost Plus has expanded to 270 stores located in thirty states. It began as a rattan furniture store and quickly grew into an exclusive retailer of imported product. Industry executives and patrons alike by and large deem Cost Plus as similar to Pier 1 Imports, without the top-end merchandise.
Crate & Barrel
It acquired home furnishings immediately from factories in Europe and built its business reputation on the beauty, durability and reasonable costs of such imports. It’s a methodology that remains central to its retailing philosophy till now, even though it has also begun importing from Thailand, Mexico and India too. The Crate & Barrel chain now contains 170 stores in the United States. It also runs CB2 which is concentrated on children, and The Land of Nod which caters to children.
There are other stores like Pottery Barn. Check them when you are bargain hunting. Competition is a great thing.
